Make Crocheted Ghost and Candy Corn Figurines

These standing figurines are quick and easy to make. Trick-or-Treater's will love them and since scrap yarn is used, your budget will appreciate them too.

Place a dozen or so candy corn in a bowl, and a terrific decoration is made. The little ghosts can be added to a model Haunted House or placed in strategic locations of a home to add a little fun to Halloween. They are even perfect as pieces to a checkers game.

Finished Sizes

Ghost: 2¼ inches tall

Candy Corn: 2½ inches tall

Materials and Gauge

  • Medium worsted weight yarn (#4) in orange, yellow, and white
  • Size H / 8 / 5mm crochet hook
  • Black 4mm Faceted Beads for Ghost eyes
  • 1 foot of sewing thread
  • Stitch Marker

Level: Easy

Gauge: 7 sc = 2 inches; 4 rows = 1 inch

Notes

Weave in loose ends as work progresses. Join all rounds with a slip stitch unless otherwise stated.

Special Stitches

Bead Single Crochet (bead sc): Push 1 bead up against hook, insert hook in next st, yo, draw loop through, drawing bead through stitch to front of work, yo, draw through both loops on hook.

Ghost

Take sewing thread and fold in half so that there is a loop at 1 end. Pull white yarn through loop in thread, string 2 beads onto thread, draw beads down thread and onto yarn. Remove sewing thread.

  • Round 1: This is the right side. With white, chain 2, 4 sc in 2nd chain (ch) from hook. Do not join. Use a stitch marker to mark rounds.
  • Round 2: 2 sc in each sc around (8 sc)
  • Round 3: Bead sc (see special stitch) in each of next 2 sc, sc in each of next 6 sc.
  • Round 4: Sc in each sc around.
  • Round 5: 2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 2 sc, [2 sc in next sc] twice, sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc. (12 sc)
  • Rounds 6-8: Repeat round 4.
  • Round 9: Slip stitch in each sc around. Fasten off.

Candy Corn

  • Round 1: This is the right side. With white, ch 2, 4 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Change color to orange in last stitch. Do not join.
  • Round 2: Sc in each sc around.
  • Round 3: [2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc] twice. (6 sc)
  • Round 4: Repeat round 2.
  • Round 5: [2 sc in each of next 2 sc, sc in next sc] twice. (10 sc)
  • Round 6: Repeat round 2, changing color to yellow in last stitch.
  • Round 7: Sc in each of next 2 sc. [2 sc in next sc, sc in each of next 3 sc] twice. (12 sc)
  • Round 8: Repeat round 2.
  • Round 9: Slip stitch in each stitch around. Fasten off.
